Tips for Looking Flawless with Brown Skin

People with brown skin have a lot of beauty issues. They come from many different backgrounds, and need to take care of their skin in a variety of ways. Some people may be able to get away with not using sunscreen because they live in a tropical country where the sun isn’t harsh year-round, but others who live closer to the equator need protection all year long.

1. Wear sunscreen

Sunscreen is very important to use especially if you have dark skin because the dark pigment of your skin intensifies sun damage . Find a good sunscreen that has at least an SPF 15 or more. If you are concerned about wrinkles, try using products with alpha hydroxyl acids (AHAs) which takes off dead skin cells and allows for healthy collagen production. AHAs also work as anti-aging agents which help fight wrinkles, sagging, fine lines and age spots.

2. Moisturize Everyday

Apply moisturizer every day after cleansing your face to keep your skin looking its best. By keeping your skin moist, you will prevent dryness and flaking which makes it easier for make up to go on smoothly.

3. Use Bronzers to Contour

Bronzing can be used to contour areas of your face that have natural shadows – creating the appearance of higher cheekbones, a more defined nose and smaller forehead. There are many different shades of bronzers so use one that will compliment your skin tone . A good technique is to apply the bronzer along the temples, under cheekbones, down center of neck, center of forehead, center or jawline and blend well with fingers or sponge applicator for about 3 seconds in small circular motion on each spot . Note: Apply twice as much self-tanner if you think you want tanner color. You can always add more but it’s hard to take off excess tanner.

4. Use a BB cream as a primer

BB creams not only cover the skin but also function as a primers. They help your make up stay on longer and helps prevent break outs by keeping your pores from getting clogged . The best products have SPF 30 or higher, moisturizer and anti aging properties to keep you looking young. Purchase a cheap bb cream with spf30 to start off if you want something that is more affordable until you find one that works for you. You can use it instead of foundation or tinted moisturizer to give your face an even tone. Just apply over entire face before using foundation to give your whole face a glow.

5. Be flexible with foundations

Don’t choose just one foundation because you will find that what looks fine in the store might not work for your skin type. You may need to try a different formula or color to get a natural look.

6. Be flexible with blush

Choose a blush shade that compliments your skin tone and use it on apple of cheek area only . Blush colors come in pink, orange, peach and red colors so choose one that is slightly darker than your skin tone to add some contrast without being too obvious . When applying blush, highlight just under the cheekbone in upward motion with a light hand.
